How to Fix: “eSIM Not Supported” Error on iPhone

Modified on Wed, 9 Jul at 5:07 PM

Problem

- Fails to activate the eSIM with error message “eSIM Not Supported. This eSIM is not compatible with this iPhone.”

⚠️ Possible Causes

- Your phone is likely locked to a carrier

How to Fix It

- You’ll need to contact the carrier that originally sold your phone and request to have it unlocked. Most carriers offer this service if you’ve met their terms (e.g., completed payment plans or met contract durations).

⚙️ How to Check if Your Phone is Unlocked

Apple

1. Go to Settings > General > About

2. Scroll down to:

    - Carrier Lock → If it says “No SIM restrictions”, your phone is unlocked

    - eSIM → If you see an IMEI number, your phone supports eSIM

3. If either is missing, your device might be locked or not eSIM-compatible

Samsung

1. Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks

2. Tap Network operators or Select roaming network

3. Turn off Select automatically

    - If you see multiple network options, your phone is likely unlocked

    - If only one appears, or you can’t search networks, the device is probably locked

Google

1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs

2. Select your SIM > Turn off Automatically select network

    - If multiple networks appear, the phone is likely unlocked

    - If not, your device is probably locked
